Coming to Detail Fest: FLEX Polishers

If you’ve been a member of Autogeekonline.net for any length of time, you probably know what a popular machine the FLEX XC 3401 VRG Orbital Polisher is. It’s forced orbital rotation is excellent at scratch and swirl removal on all paints, even the hard clear coats.

Bob Eichelberg of FLEX USA will be at Detail Fest to answer your questions about the FLEX 3401 and the rest of the FLEX polishers. Bob also joined us as a special guest at our SEMA booth in Las Vegas last November. We’re pleased to have Bob back to Florida to share his insight and expertise.

Even before FLEX became a staple in the garages in America, the company had a long history. FLEX was started in 1922 in Stuttgart, Germany. Their first product was a portable grinding machine with a flexible shaft. Since then, the line has expanded to include wet and dry tools for concrete, stone, and masonry, plus their incredible polishers. In 2006, FLEX opened their North American tool distribution and service center in Greer, South Carolina. Since then, FLEX has quickly become a leader in the detailing industry thanks to the quality and performance of their polishers.

Coming to Detail Fest: Optimum Polymer Technologies

Optimum Polymer TechnologiesOptimum car care products are a group of environmentally safe, paint safe, technologically advanced products that will give your vehicle optimum shine and protection.

Optimum Polymer Technologies was founded by an organic chemist whose specialty is polymers and automotive paint formulations. Dr. David Ghodoussi worked backwards from his knowledge of paint?s composition to formulate cleaners and protectants best suited for today?s finishes. Years of research and testing led to a line of products that deliver superior results without compromising sensitive clear coat finishes or the environment.

Optimum employs the latest polymer technology to put their products at the front of the pack in terms of durability, surface enhancement, and protection. Optimum Car Wax produces a warm carnauba shine with added sealant ingredients to extend the life of the wax. In a convenient spray formula, it goes on effortlessly and requires no buffing to create a lasting layer of protection.

Optimum Car Wash works hand in hand with any quality wax by cleaning the paint without removing the protective coat of wax or sealant. You wax less often yet retain a high level of paint protection.

Optimum polishes restore a brilliant shine and flawless finish. Optimum compounds produce minimal, if any, marring so you achieve your desired results in fewer steps.

Optimum also pioneered the multi-purpose No Rinse Wash & Shine, a car wash that requires no rinsing and minimal water usage.

With all these benefits, Optimum products are so easy to use. Professionals and weekend detailers alike will love the convenience and results of these advanced car care products.

These are just a few of Optimum‘s products. Go to Autogeek.net to see the full line.

Coming to Detail Fest: Dodo Juice

Dodo Juice has quickly gained a large following thanks to their high quality carnauba waxes and their own unique brand of marketing. We’re excited to have PJ Aass, one half of the Dodo Juice team, join us at Detail Fest. Here is Dodo Juice’s story in their own words…

Dodo Juice was set up in June 2007 by PJ and Dom, a couple of guys who wanted to wake up the car wax industry, make it a double espresso and then jump on its bed.

Tired of the car care industry’s prehistoric marketing and mass-produced offerings, Dodo Juice was established with one aim in mind to bring high performance car care products to the enthusiast, at realistic prices, without any pompous claims.

Launching with just five hand made waxes, the range has grown to over 20 products, all made in the UK by a small team of dedicated technicians. The waxes have been well-received by the detailing community and are used by professional detailers as well as amateur enthusiasts. Dodo Juice’s premium wax, Supernatural (sold in a bespoke hard wood container), sold out within 25 minutes.

Overall, Dodo Juice is a company that is proud to be different, proud that its logo is difficult to read, proud of its distinctive website (www.dodojuice.com) and proud to be friendly, approachable and educational. One day it may even achieve its ambition of buying a volcano island, complete with monorail and laser. Then its competitors will have even more reason to worry.

Dodo Juice‘s PJ Aass will be at Autogeek’s 5th Annual Detail Fest on March 27-28!

Coming to Detail Fest: Black WOW

Black WOW Trim Restorer was developed by pro detailer Richard Lin and his father, a world renowned scientist. Richard, known on the forums as OctaneGuy, owns ShowCarDetailing.com and details at the Show Car Detailing shop in Anaheim, California. Though Richard is an expert at detailing all cars, he’s a MINI enthusiast. He wanted a product that would restore and maintain the black trim that’s so prevalent on MINIs, but he wanted his product to be more effective and last longer than anything else on the market. Black WOW was born.

Black WOW has been a customer favorite for the last two years thanks to its easy application and dramatic results. Originally developed for MINIs, Black WOW has proven to be highly effective on any vehicle and any color trim. That’s because Black WOW is not a dye; it’s a restorer. It penetrates, quenches, and restores the surface. Therefore, it doesn’t look fake or painted. Black WOW looks like your vehicle’s factory trim, only better. Just look at these before and after shots!

Meet OctaneGuy Richard Lin at Detail Fest on March 27-28!

Coming to Detail Fest: Metropolitan Vacuum Cleaner Company

The Metro Vacuum Cleaner Company is one of our longest-standing and most popular brands. With Vice President of Marketing David Stern’s visit to Detail Fest coming up, we wanted to share the company’s story:

In 1939, Hyman Gulker pawned his pocket watch and gave $50 to his son-in-law, Israel, and daughter, Pearl Stern. That year Metro Vac, a small retail store in the Bronx, opened its doors. The first years were spent rebuilding and selling vacuums.

In 1951, Jules Stern, the son of Israel and Pearl Stern, joined the company. Between 1957 and 1970, Metro introduced three industry firsts: in 1957, the 110-volt hand vac; in 1964m the first 12-volt auto hand vacuum that plugged into the cigarette lighter; and in 1970, the Metro Duo-Volt, the world’s first and still the only dual voltage hand held vacuum cleaner. Amid all this innovation and growth, Metro moved into a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Suffern, NY.

In 1974, Kenneth Stern, the eldest son of Jules, joined Metro. Then David Stern, the youngest son of Jules, joined the family business in 1984. Since then, under the keen eyes of Jules, President, Kenneth, Vice-President of National Sales and David, Vice-President of Marketing, many new and different markets have been opened for Metro products. Over the last 70 years, the Metropolitan Vacuum Cleaner Company, Inc. has evolved into a multidivisional corporation, producing vacuums and inflators for auto and motorcycle care, sporting goods and camping gear, computer maintenance, and pet grooming.

In 2002, the Air Force Blaster Motorcycle Dryer revolutionized the motorcycle maintenance by trimming 80% off the drying time. For the automotive field, Metro’s Vac N Blo series offers enthusiasts a high-powered vacuum, an exterior dryer, and an inflator all in one machine. Metro’s Stainless Steel series brings Metro performance into the home in sleek, stylish vacuum cleaners. Never straying too far from what made them successful, Metro still produces the 110 volt hand vac and 12 volt hand vac.

Metro Vac is the industry standard for auto vacuums! The variety, the versatility, and the performance offered by Metro vacuums and dryers will turn your garage into a state-of-the-art detail shop.

David Stern of Metro Vac will be at Autogeek’s 5th Annual Detail Fest on March 27-28!

Rich has won the Prestige Painter Award from House of Kolors in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Detail Fest: A Look Back

It’s hard to believe our fifth Detail Fest is right around the corner! Looking back, the event has grown bigger and better than we could have imagined at that first Detail Fest in 2006. Autogeek.net was operating out of a 2000 sq. ft. space in a small business park. Max decided we should invite our customers to come and spend a day detailing. About 24 people showed up – this was before the forum – and a lot of those same people have been to every Detail Fest since. It wasn’t a big event but it was a starting point.?

Autogeek's 1st Annual Detail Fest
Autogeek’s 1st Annual Detail Fest

The next year, we were in a new building awaiting the completion of our current? headquarters. We had a much larger space to work with and many more ideas for what Detail Fest should be. By that time in 2007, AutogeekOnline.net had caught on so it was much easier to get the word out. That was the first year the car show was added to Detail Fest. That year, we estimate 200 people were there at the peak of the day. Not bad considering it was only our second year! We had demonstrations by some professional detailers and our neighbors, a racing team, displayed a race car and a couple of custom motorcycles. 2007 was also the first year we had manufacturers present.

Autogeek's 2nd Annual Detail Fest
Autogeek’s 2nd Annual Detail Fest

2008 was the Grand Opening of our new building! Max had purchased a 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse space and was picking out the finishes right up until D-day. In fact, construction went on for some time after Detail Fest. This Detail Fest was unique because we had a huge, completely empty indoor space. Many more manufacturers were present this year – 20 in all. They all set up booths inside. Some had cars inside for demonstrations, like Meguiars and System One. To add something special for attendees, Max wanted every manufacturer that attended to debut a brand new product. In the weeks leading up to Detail Fest, the Autogeek offices were pulling together all the information on the new products in time to coordinate their web launch with their live launch at Detail Fest. It was a whirlwind of activity but, with a lot of help from those manufacturers, it was a success. This was also the first year that Meguiars and Mothers attended, and custom motorcycles were on display by bike-builder-to-the-stars Austin Weiss of Streamline Designs. Over 300 people attended the third Detail Fest!

Autogeek's 3rd Annual Detail Fest was held indoors.

In?January 2009, we weren’t sure if our fourth Detail Fest would happen in March. With the country’s economic challenges, other long-standing car shows had been canceled and we considered doing the same. Ultimately, Max decided to go ahead with Detail Fest. It might be scaled back a little but it would be there for the people who wanted to come. As it turned out, a lot of people wanted to come. Autogeek’s Fourth Annual Detail Fest was our best yet. More manufacturers were present. More cars and a bigger variety of cars were displayed. One notable addition was the Meguiar’s detailing class taught the following Sunday by Mike Phillips, who joined the Autogeek team later that year. Meguiar’s brought their big rig and tents were set up outside for all the booths (by now the warehouse was overflowing with products!). Because we are in Florida, a rain shower rolled through the morning of Detail Fest and soaked the ground. Max quickly ordered bales of hay. Our crew spent the early hours covering the mud and setting up tents. When the clouds cleared, we had an outstanding Detail Fest with the best turnout yet.

Autogeek's 4th Annual Detail Fest was our biggest yet!
Autogeek’s 4th Annual Detail Fest was our biggest yet!

Here we are in 2010 with Autogeek’s Fifth Annual Detail Fest coming up on March 27-28. For the first time, we’ve officially extended the event to two days! All manufacturers are returning this year along with many new faces, including representatives from Griot’s Garage. Plus, Mothers will bring their big rig and Meguiars’ big rig will be back this year, too! Mike Phillips will be teaching a “Machine Polishing Basics” class at two times on Saturday. The classes are free but we request that you sign up. Anyone registered for Detail Fest is already signed up for the 9 a.m. class. There is no additional charge to take a class.

Detailing demonstration at Detail Fest ’09.

We’ll once again have good food, great cars, and, of course, detailing demonstrations going on all day. Attendees will be able to “try it before you buy it”. Manufacturers will have products available to try for free, and they’ll be doing demonstrations.

On Sunday, day two of Detail Fest will be more hands-on training and demos, plus attendees will be able to pull their vehicle into the Autogeek garage for free detailing advice from Mike Phillips and other experts. Special guests from Cyclo, Flex, Metro Vac and more will be in the garage to offer their expertise!

As always, wash stations and power outlets will be available for anyone wanting to detail onsite. Raffle prizes will be given away, and car show participants will receive their goody bag valued at a minimum of $50, including the official Detail Fest T-shirt. Computers will be available so orders can be placed on site using our special Detail Fest discount! Orders will be packed and ready to go home with you.

Detail Fest is free to attend if you will not be showing a car, and parking is free. Extra t-shirts will be available for purchase. Detail Fest 2010 should be another great event with fantastic cars, product demonstrations, hands-on instruction, and much more!
